The Clayton
BHW Capital brought Authentic in during construction to build the brand for its second community along the Tour 18 golf course.
Standing apart in a sea of sameness. Humble and Atascocita are full of formulaic apartment brands, and the developer’s first project on the site looked a lot like the rest. This time BHW wanted a brand that matched the quality of the building. They also wanted it ready to hand to whichever property manager came on board, so the leasing team could explain the property’s value from day one.
Our approach
A retreat within reach. The site sits off Will Clayton Parkway, between two ponds and a golf course, set back from the commercial strips nearby. Our concept, “Modern Texas Ease,” made that distance the story: peaceful and private, but close to IAH, the Beltway and Houston’s job centers. We avoided golf and country club clichés and drew on Houston’s Blue Tile Project, the vintage address tiles set into city curbs, as a quiet nod to local design history.
Three resident profiles, each defined by what they want from home:
The Grounded Professional: Works long hours in energy, logistics or at the airport and wants peace, privacy and a gym worth using when he gets home.
The Purposeful Pair: A couple looking for calm, natural light, room to grow and trails just outside the door, without giving up city access.
The Modern Nesters: Moving out of a single-family home and not giving up design standards. They want low maintenance, a private patio and room to breathe.
A brand that reads as calm, not cookie-cutter. Five guiding words: grounded, sophisticated, serene, authentic, approachable. The brand statement: “Rooted in the rhythm of Texas living, The Clayton embodies approachable confidence, where modern comfort meets soulful design.” The palette mixes muted greens, deep blues and warm neutrals, taken from the wooded setting and the tile motif.
Built to coexist with the building
BHW wanted the brand to work alongside its interior design team, not sit on top of the finished building. We matched signage, collateral and touchpoints to the FF&E selections, so the main entry, unit plaques, monument sign, brochure and leasing folder all feel like part of the architecture.
The brand shows up at every stage of the property. Construction scrim and panel signage gave the site a presence from the street while the buildings went up. A launch splash site introduced The Clayton online, with one message: “A calm retreat along Will Clayton Parkway.” Print collateral and wayfinding finish the experience on site.
The Clayton is open and leasing, led by a local Greystar team. Because the brand was finished before the first building opened, Greystar didn’t have to build a story from scratch.
They started with a complete toolkit: guidelines, messaging, signage, wayfinding and leasing collateral, all designed to match the interiors. That let the leasing team start selling right away. The messaging we wrote carries straight through to the property’s live website, from “Apartment living with a natural ease” to “Where home welcomes you.”
BHW now plans to bring Authentic onto every project going forward, from new developments to repositions of existing assets.
